NOVA SPA WATER CONDITIONER & PENETRATING CLEANSER APPLICATION DIRECTIONS
For best results, we suggest using our Nova Penetrating Spa Cleanser product to remove existing contaminant
build-up in the spa system before putting Nova Spa Water Conditioner in the spa water.

PLEASE NOTE:  If you are using Spa Magic currently in your spa, drain and clean your spa.   Nova Spa Water
Conditioner may not be compatible with Spa Magic and could cause water quality issues.  ABM Solutions recommends
using the Nova Penetrating Spa Water Cleanser to clean the tub prior to using the Conditioner.

Nova Penetrating Spa Cleanser Application Directions
1. Remove the spa filter cartridge from the filter housing and store in a safe place during the cleaning process. It is
recommended that the filter also be cleaned with the Nova Penetrating Spa Cleanser or replaced if necessary.
2. Use the existing spa water, if there is less than 5 ppm chlorine or bromine. If chlorine or bromine exists at 5 ppm
or greater, drain spa and refill. Chlorine and bromine will kill the microbes and the cleanser will not work.
Pour in the full bottle of the Penetrating Spa Cleanser.
3. Circulate the spa water with the heater off or set the temperature below 75 degrees for a minimum of 8 hours per
day for two days. Do not use with hot water. Temperatures over 75 degrees will kill the microbes. Close the air
jets to reduce foaming during the cleaning process.  The foam can be used to clean the surface above the
  water line.
4. After two days, run the pumps on high to flush the plumbing for 10 minutes.  Drain the water, and refill the spa with
fresh water. This is a good time to remove the jets and clean them.  Run the pumps again on high setting. This
will help flush the remaining contaminants out of the plumbing.   Drain and refill the spa.  Set your temperature
  setting to the desired temperature.
5. Clean both sides of the spa cover with Clorox Clean-Up or similar product and water. If the cover is cracked or
torn, we recommend it be replaced. VERY IMPORTANT: If your spa cover has a zipper closure it is important to
unzip the cover, BUT DO NOT REMOVE THE COVER, because it is difficult to put back on. Flush the inside of
the cover with your garden hose. The inside of spa covers have been known to harbor mold and bacteria, all
of which drip from condensation through the cover back into the spa water.
6. We recommend using the Nova Penetrating Spa Cleanser for cleaning the spa filters. Do not use chemical filter
cleaners or any household cleaners that have chemicals in them.  The chemicals may react with the water and
cause an odor or cloud the water in the tub.
7. Do not use the spa during the contaminant cleaning process.

Nova Spa Water Conditioner Application Directions
1. Fill the spa with fresh water.  Heat the water to a temperature of 90 degrees or more.  Check alkalinity.  For best
results, total alkalinity should be between 80 and 120.  See the tip section for information on raising and
  lowering alkalinity.
2. Check the pH to ensure it is in the range of 7.8 to 8.4. (8.0 is optimum). You do not need to check your pH on a
regular basis because Nova Spa will maintain the pH at normal levels automatically. However, because water
can be different in different areas, we recommend that first time users of Nova Spa check the pH of the water
for the first 2 weeks to make sure that it maintains the pH at normal level.
3.  Add 16-ounce of Nova Spa Water Conditioner for each 500 gallons of spa water.
4. If you use your spa frequently (4-5 times a week), clean its filter every week. If the usage is less, clean the filter
less often. We recommend rinsing the filter with hot water, soaking it in Penetrating Spa Cleanser with cold
water, and then rinse with water for a thorough cleaning.
5. Add another bottle of Nova Spa to the spa water every three months.
6. Drain and replace the spa water at least once a year.  We recommend using the Nova Penetrating Spa Cleanser
every 6 months for best results, but at minimum once a year (drain and refill) to remove built up contaminants from
  the tub shell and plumbing.

TIPS FOR USING NOVA SPA WATER CONDITIONER
1. Before putting Nova Spa Water Conditioner into the spa water, adjust alkalinity and pH first. Check the alkalinity
and pH of your tap water first. Knowing your alkalinity and ph levels will help you pick the correct product to
   adjust the spa.
2. If your alkalinity is low and your ph is low use baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) to raise both. If your alkalinity is
high, use sodium bisulfate to lower the total alkalinity. Add 1 teaspoon to a bucket of water and dissolve it
before adding it to the spa, test 1/2 hour later and do it again if necessary, repeat as needed. Use sodium
carbonate to raise ph without changing the alkalinity. Adjust the water pH a little at a time; checking as you go
until you get the pH between 7.8 and 8.4. (8.0 is optimum)   Apple vinegar can be used to lower the pH.
3. Nova Spa Water Conditioner contains positively charged ions. Your tub's surface has a negative charge. These
charges will eventually bond and you will notice a slight film develop on the surface of your tub. The benefit of
this bonding is that, it creates a natural lubricant within your spa, coating your heating element, pump, seals,
and your spa plumbing, allowing your tub's equipment to work more efficiently and last longer. All that you
need to do is wipe the inside of your tub with a clean cloth or sponge to break this bond.
4. At times you may experience an organic smell. This simply means Nova Spa has found contaminants and is
working to eliminate them. This may also suggest that your filter requires more frequent cleaning. Make sure
the pH of the spa water is between 7.8 to 8.4. Check to make sure the underside and inside of the spa cover
has been cleaned. If the odor is still present after 24 hours, putting two ounces of chlorine in the spa water
   should eliminate the odor.
5. During periods of heavy use, you may choose to "shock" the spa because of the increased potential of bacteria in
the spa.  The shock products are designed to give you quick results.  Nova Spa is compatible with chlorine shock
   products
, but we recommend the non chlorine shock.
6. We do not recommend using fragrances of any kind with Nova Spa because they may not be compatible.
7. Nova Spa is compatible with ozonators, ionizes, chlorine, and bromine.
8. Cloudy water may be caused by frequent use and/or by a large number of users, deodorants, oils, lotions,
sunscreen, or other products used on the skin or soap residues in bathing suits. To clear up cloudy water:
  • Make sure spa users and bathing suits are as clean as possible.
  • Make sure the filter has been rinsed with hot water regularly.
  • Make sure the filtration system runs at least 8 hours a day (24hours).
  • Use a non chlorine shock to oxidize the organics in the water.
  • Water clarifier can be used to speed up recovery time or use weekly for prevention.
  • Be patient, the spa water will clear up and does not have to be drained if the water is cloudy; Nova Spa just
needs some time to do its job.
